A Modern Family Business with women leading the company!
On safari in Udawalawe National Park with Udawalawe Ethical Safari.
At Udawalawe Ethical Safari we are breaking away from old fashioned views around women in business, that are still prevalent in Sri Lanka. We are a family of two sisters, one brother and Mum who all own and run the business together, equally. The family is what makes this company so special.
We are the first company in Udawalawe to have a female safari guide, but it does not stop there, all of the females in the family are involved in the operation of the company. Sisters Avishka and Sashini, Brother Nadeera and Mum are all vital in the smooth running of Udawalawe Ethical Safari, from taking bookings and sending detailed booking confirmations, arranging transfers, running our social media, maintaining jeeps, scheduling drivers, arranging refreshments and providing delicious food cooked fresh for clients, it is all a team effort!
Our clients praise our organisation and excellent communication, fantastic guides and our delicious home-cooked food. To ensure the highest quality and standards of hygiene are met every single time we made the decision to home cook the meals for our clients. Mum is a fantastic cook and has had so much excellent feedback from clients about her food, she even has her own vegan signature dish of Devilled Mushrooms which always impresses our vegan clients. We are so proud of Mum and Sashini carefully preparing the best quality ingredients to make outstanding food, fresh for each safari. Unlike some other companies who have to collect food at the start of the day and take it with them for the whole safari, Mum and Sashini prepare the lunch and have it delivered to the park just in time to meet the jeep for lunch, fresh delicious hygienic food that has not been on the jeep all day.
Our ethics do not end with animal welfare and providing the best experience for our clients at a fair price, they also include equal opportunities for women, and our little family embodies that.
